Why do Indian people lean, slump...?

Posture??? How important is it? How many of us attended Body language class? Do we care to know more about it? When for the first time my client told me they were doing a research on Indian Body Language, I thought it was a waste of time and money and resources. Ooopps yes I did think it was a waste…I don’t need to say that I pretended it would be interesting & important thing to do.

After sometime I met my client again. This time he shared key findings from the research. “Most of them can not stand straight for more than 5 min. They all love to lean against the wall or table...” that was it I was not listening…may be because I am an Indian I took it very personally. I was embarrassed. I just could not resist and in my attempt to make him (client) feel stupid enough to do such a research I asked “but if I may ask how will this research help you”… We had to do the interiors for our corporate office and it’s important to understand body language in office. Like in this case we need to think of a solution for clean white walls. It isn’t a futile exercise my girl.

As we have been told repeatedly “Posture is important in profession.” But we really do not care. If you do…you will notice people or yourself slump in your chair or lean on the wall. No one wants to do business with someone who has no energy. Well the question is, are we interested in knowing about ourselves or others? How many times have we bothered to know more about people from other countries than just the kind of food they eat, places to visit? How many of us carry a detailed map we visit a new place? Why do we feel it’s ok to use office resources for personal use sometimes? Why do most of us hate to organize files ourselves? (Oh we have the trainee and office boy to do that don’t we ;-) simple answer.)

India (inspiration for others, problem for us)

"Without India, world is doomed in the poverty of materialism." quote from Inspite of the gods.

This was one of the first few lines that forced me to think. Inspite of outsiders (the term is not intended to hurt but just struck me easily) recognizing opportunities and strengths this country has, we have definitely have not made the best of it. If we do have answeres for the entire world, why is it that we have failed to solve our own issues - political, social....any problem.
